What is NIL?

Under NCAA rules, Student-Athletes are allowed to receive compensation for the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL). NIL has become the general term used to describe the promotional activities for which student-athletes can be compensated without compromising their collegiate eligibility. In the current amateur athletic environment, NIL is an important factor in being able to attract and retain the talent necessary to win championships, stands for Name, Image and Likeness. As of July 1, 2021 after the SCOTUS decision.

What is a collective?

A collective is an entity created by a group of individuals to pool financial resources together for the purpose of monetizing NIL opportunities for student-athletes. Collectives such as the Cullowhee Collective sign agreements with student-athletes to help them take advantage of NIL opportunities. Financial support for Cullowhee Collective from individuals, and business allows the collective to meet its obligations to the student-athletes.

Where does the money go?

The goal of the Cullowhee Collective is to have all funds go to the student-athletes minus required expenses.

How can businesses be involved?

Businesses can have agreements with WCU student-athletes through the Cullowhee Collective giving them permission to utilize the athletes name, image and likeness. Please email the Cullowhee Collective at cullowheecollective@gmail.com for more information.

Are donations tax deductible?

No, contributions made to the Cullowhee Collective are not tax deductible. If you are a business that wants to use a player in a marketing campaign for your company, consult with your CPA about using Cullowhee Collective as a marketing expense.
